With the development of wireless communication technology, sensingtechnology and microelectronics technology, wireless sensor networks areintroduced into structural health monitoring(SHM) and develop rapidly as it canovercome the deficiency of wired sensor networks that wire amount large andcost hige. Review the research status of WSN in SHM, that hardware andsoftware update continuously, so in this paper a new type of wireless sensornode has been integrated with advanced electronic components and softwareprogramme based on AVR Studio, and formed into a complete wireless sensornetwork system which displayed bright prospects for structural healthmonitoring through a set of functional tests. The main research work and relevant achievement are as follows:A newtype wireless sensor node and base station have been integrated. Thenode consists of microprocessor unit, wireless communication unit, dataacquisition unit and energy unit, can measure acceleration and strain which arecommon physical quantities for civil engineering structural health monitoring. At last the peripheral circuit and extension interface design are complete withelectronics engineer's assistance. Each sensor module of the data acquisition unit is tandardized and tested.temperature module is tested contrasting environmental control temperature, while acceleration module and strain module are tested in static state and indynamic state repeatedly. Through the error analysis and frequencyidentification analysis, the validity and reliability of the data collection areverified.A completed wireless sensor network procedure is developed throughwhich the nodes and base station can implement their own work tasks. Thesortware is based on the development platform of AVR Studio and BitCloudstack, designating hierarchical network topology and wireless sensor networkprotocol, designing the data collection programme, time synchronizationprogramme, serial port communication programme and the programme ofnetwork communication.Appling the devoloped wireless sensor network system to structuralvibration test, comparing the structural modal parameters extracted throughwireless data with the results of wired data analysis and finite element analysis, analyzing the network stability, The feasibility and effectiveness of the wireless sesor network system are verified that can applied to civil engineering structurehealth monitoring.
