Abstract/Summary:
The new curriculum reform claims the importance of developing students’ ability and advocates a learner-centered teaching method instead of a teacher-centered one.In order to meet the requirements of the new curriculum reform,this thesis explores the design pattern and the essentials of the ability-oriented learning plans,which are based on constructivism learning theory,zone of proximal development theory and ability-oriented effective classroom teaching theory.Besides,this thesis uses classroom observation as the main research method,assisted by questionnaire and interview,to investigate the advantages and effectiveness of developing students’ reading,thinking and expressing abilities when they use ability-oriented learning plans in English reading class.According to the study,the advantages of using the ability-oriented learning plans in senior high school English teaching are as follows:1)It adheres to ability-oriented teaching concept,which meets the requirements of the new curriculum reform;2)It keeps to student-centered teaching concept,devoting most of the time in the class to students’ independent reading and thinking,cooperative communicating and active speaking;3)It further clarifies the teaching activities and learning activities,which promotes the development of teaching and learning at the same time.Besides,the effectiveness of using the ability-oriented learning plans in senior high school English teaching is that:1)it requires students to apply the learning methods of independent reading,autonomous inquiry and cooperative communication,which change the traditional,single and passive learning methods;2)the real-life problem-solving tasks and interesting cooperative tasks in the learning plans arouse students’ interests in reading;3)in the learning plans,the Reading Strategy Guidance,Mind Map,Problem-inquiry,Word Bank,and Situation and Example used in the teaching develop students’ reading,thinking and expressing abilities.The study provides significant references to the innovative design of learning plans,and offers some suggestions to improving the effectiveness of English reading teaching in senior high schools.
