Grammar is an important and impartible part of English.So it is very important for the English learners who want to improve their English.However,the traditional teaching method primarily focuses on grammar rules,so that most students could only answer the grammar questions but couldn?t learn and apply the grammar creatively.The aim of this paper is to explore whether situational teaching method which applies to English grammar can improve English grammar teaching or not.The research is designed to test the following three questions:1.Whether situational teaching method can arouse students? interest in grammar learning or not?2.Whether situational teaching method can improve grammar proficiency or not?3.Whether situational teaching method can improve their comprehensive language skills or not?The subjects are eighty-five students in Grade 2 from junior middle school in Fanhai,Yanggu.The class 1 regards as experimental class,while the class 2 regards as controlled class.The study lasts for four months.The study adapts the research method,which includes test and questionnaire.In the pre-test,grammar and comprehensive performance test and questionnaire survey were made in the two classes.The aim of the test is to determine whether there are any significant differences between two groups.The aim of the questionnaire is to determine the students? attitude and interests in learning English grammar.In the middle-test,identical grammar lessons were administered to both classes throughout the study.However,the experimental class is taught using a situational approach whereas inductive-deductive method was used for the controlled class.In the post-test,both groups of students are tested again,but the questionnaire is only administered to the experimental group.After disposal data,the data is carefully analyzed using the SPSS 22.0(independent-test).The results of this empirical study indicate that a situational teaching approach can not only increase students? interest in learning grammar but also improve students? learning efficiency and comprehensive language skills.The implications of this study: in order to improve students? learning efficiency and comprehensive language skills,teachers should have rich professional knowledge and pay more attention to the teaching aims and class effectiveness when the situational teaching method is used in the process of grammar teaching.
