Grammar teaching has always played an important part in language teaching, because without grammar there will be no language. But the purpose of grammar learning is not for test or for its own sake but to enable students to use language correctly and improve their communicative capability. Even though most teachers have realized the importance of grammar teaching, they are still unable to find a good way to incorporate it with the cultivation of communicative ability in daily life. As the last province to have the new curriculum reform, Guangxi is badly in need of both theoretical and practical guidance in English grammar teaching. Based on this, this paper aims to use the example of Wuzhou Senior high school to explore the background of English grammar teaching in our country, as well as the application of situational teaching approach to English grammar teaching in senior high school and its result.Almost one hundred years ago, teachers have been applying situation in teaching foreign language. It is a language teaching method which aims at combining situation and language learning. Both language teaching and learning can be approached in situation, which makes language learning a lot more effective and easier and so students can master language better.This research begins with the definition of grammar and makes a summary of different grammar teaching models. And then it is followed by detailed concept of Situation, Situational Teaching Approach, the theoretical basis, teaching principles and ways of creating situation. What’s more, this thesis represent the Situational Teaching Approach in Wuzhou Senior High School grammar teaching in order to test the effectiveness of Situational Teaching Approach in teaching English grammar in senior high school. During the research, the writer applies questionnaires and test data analysis, which includes pre-test, middle-test and after-test. All the questionnaires and the analysis of the data show that applying Situational Teaching Approach has a better effect on arousing students’interest in learning and confidence. In a word, Situational Teaching Approach is highly effective in senior high school grammar teaching.
