Application of the Development Theory of Regional Geography Textbook to the reality was a hot and main trend in promoting the development of regional geography teaching materials.It is a new attempt to study and develop the regional geography textbook from the perspective of local features with world heritage value.This study is primarily subject to the requirements of the "Geography Curriculum Standards for Full-time Compulsory Education"(2011).The development is based on the theory of geography and cognitive psychology,the principles of regional geography teaching materials development,the references of domestic and foreign achievements and concepts,and the analysis of local world heritage value and new development trend of regional geography teaching materials.The main contents include: reviews of the development theory of Regional Geography Textbooks and survey of local knowledge of junior high school students in Yuanyang County.Overall and thematic content design of Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces Regional Geography textbook based on the value of world heritage.Evaluation and teaching practice of Regional Geography Textbook in Yuanyang County based on questionnaire survey.Generally,based on the value of World Heritage,the development of Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces Regional Geography Textbook must address two aspects: 1)According to the theory of geography and cognitive psychology,what kind of regional geography textbooks are of high quality? 2)How to integrate the world heritage value of Hani Rice Terraces into regional geography textbooks so that students can learn local geographic knowledge,cultivate geographic skills,establish heritage conservation attitude,and eventually put into practice of heritage protection.From the theory of geography and cognitive psychology to review the development of domestic regional geography teaching materials,today's high-quality regional geography textbook should to: 1)emphasize the accuracy of scientific knowledge.2)make difference from the local chronicles or history with specific geographical attributes.3)highlight the native characteristics.4)address the practicality of critical issues related to local development.5)be in line with interests of junior high school students,in terms of cognitive psychology.During the developing process of regional geography textbook,firstly analyze the world heritage value of Hani Rice Terraces,that is,in line with World Heritage Standards(iii)and(v),as well as "Authenticity” and “Integrity",after that,organize the textbook contents based on the questionnaire survey on the cognition of local geography knowledge in junior high school students of Yuanyang County.The textbook contents are as follows: 1)As World Cultural Heritage of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces,the most critical issue in Yuanyang County is the paradox between heritage protection and development,therefore,two themes of "World Cultural Heritage: Hani Rice Terraces" and "Harmonious Development between Man and Natural Environment" are set up.2)The students in Yuanyang County have more interest in the local knowledge but they know less,so the four elements of the heritage are appropriate as the framework for designing four themes,which are "Sacred Water Source Forests","The Forest Surrounded Pearl: Hani Villages","Magnificent Hani Rice Terraces in Yuanyang County ","Hani Rice Terraces' Soul: Water".And after each topic,cooperative learning for inquiry is set up to educate students' geography skills.Furthermore,in order to enable students to get the attitude of heritage protection,the ideology of protection is emphasized throughout the textbook,and the specific heritage protection actions and suggestions are recommended to the students.Using the Likert Scale to evaluate the textbook by local teachers and students.The teachers evaluate the textbook through five aspects,the scores are: the scientificalness of knowledge is 3.51,the ideology is 3.76,the adaptation to the principles of cognitive psychology is 3.55,the editing skill is 3.40 and the practicability is 3.53,which means that almost all the teaches are “completely satisfied” with the textbook.Meanwhile,for the evaluation by students,the indicators include 20 aspects such as reading intention,reading interest,and inquiry activity,etc,the scores are more than 3 points that is also means “completely satisfied” with the textbook.The results of teaching practice of the textbook and the test after teaching indicate,after the studying of the textbook followed by the author,the accuracy of the local knowledge test of the students reaches 75 percent,which means a very good effect of teaching.More importantly,the development of regional geography textbook requires not only the extensive participation of teachers in teaching and local students,but also the repeated corrections in teaching practice.And it also should keep pace with changes,namely the materials used in the textbooks should make immediate amendments according to local changes in the actual situation.Therefore,suggestions on teaching are proposed according to the geography teaching situation in Yuanyang junior high school:1)For students,their self-learning of local knowledge should mainly base on the simplified scientific books;2)For geography teachers,they should arrange 1 to 2 routine classes of regional geography education,and choose local cases in Yuanyang County to teaching the regional geographic knowledge.
