In the 1990s,Guided Learning Plan(GLP)began to appear in the field of basic education in China and it is seen as a novel approach to the basic education.From the year of 2006,in view of the good results achieved in many middle schools at home,experts and researchers have begun to make researches into this teaching model.The previous researches include whether GLP is effective in promoting students' learning performance,whether there are any problems during the process of conducting it and so on.However,there are just a few researches done in the middle schools of the developing areas of China.Besides,in the year of 2012,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region began to implement the new curriculum standard in which GLP teaching is an indispensable part.Therefore,it is significant to do the present study to conduct research into the application of GLP in senior high school in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.The present research is based on constructivism and humanism.The subjects participating in it are 204 students from Wuxuan Number One Middle School.They are from Classes 16,17 and 18,taught by the same English teacher.Test,questionnaire,and interview are used as the research instruments in the present study.The test papers done at the beginning and at the end of the semester are authorized by Lai Bin Educational Department.The questionnaire on the overall situation of the application of GLP in senior high school is developed by the author,with reference to the questionnaire used by Liu Rong(2014),and has passed Cronbach's alpha Test which is.814.There are five dimensions in this questionnaire:students' attitudes to GLP;students' ways of finishing every part of GLP;students' overall situation of finishing GLP;influence of GLP on students' learning style;students' opinion of teacher 's ways of using GLP.The interviews are specially designed according to the results of tests and questionnaire.Then,the collected data are analyzed through Pair-samples T test in order to find out whether GLP has the same effect on students with different English proficiency.The three research questions addressed in the present study are:(1)what is the overall situation of the application of GLP?(2)What is the effect that GLP has on students with different English proficiency?(3)What are the problems that appear in the application of GLP?By doing the research,the author has found out the following results:GLP may not fully come out with results wanted though it has advanced teaching philosophy;students with low English proficiency make great improvement in their English learning while it seems that those with high English proficiency have little improvement;there appear some problems during the application of GLP such as the shortage of school staffs,the negative attitudes from some students and so on.Based on these findings,some suggestions are proposed for the relevant educational departments,school leaders,teachers and students.For relevant educational departments and the school leaders,the suggestions are as follows:holding necessary training for the teachers so as to use GLP effectively;building up incentive measures to stimulate teachers' enthusiasm;encouraging teacher's individual style of designing GLP;setting up monitoring measures.For teachers,there are also some implications:making clear the design of GLP;taking the opinions from students of all levels into consideration;developing students' cooperative learning spirit;checking students' GLP often;paying more attention to the students;developing students' autonomous learning ability.For students,the implications are as follows:changing their own learning philosophy;using GLP flexibly.
