| Rapidly developing society needs people paying equal attention to knowledge aswell as ability, so the traditional teaching model that the students accept passively can’tmeet the needs of developing the students’ abilities. After school, in the absence of theteacher’s guidance, the independent learning ability is particularly essential becausepeople need to learn in their whole life. Therefore, the new curriculum reform stressedthat teachers should pay attention to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability. Inthis context, many a new teaching model has turned up, among them, LPGTM haswelcomed by many schools, especially in Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai and some otherbig cities and provinces, many schools are using this kind of teaching model and haveachieved good responses. In recent years, senior high schools in Yan’ an and the countiesof it have adopted this teaching model. Therefore, this study aims to investigate theapplication of this teaching model and the teachers and students ‘attitudes towards theteaching model in Yan’an.This study chooses some teachers and students in Yan’an Senior High School as theresearch subjects. Three kinds of research methods have been used: classroomobservation, questionnaire and interview. First of all, ten teachers have been chosen to bethe subjects of Classroom Observation and their lessons have been recorded. Then,158copies of questionnaires have been given out to the students in Class Five (experimentalclass), Class Six (experimental class) and Class Seven (average class) and152copies ofthem are available. At last, five teachers and nine Students have been chosen to be thesubjects of interview. The interviews to the teachers and students have carried onrespectively and the processes have been recorded completely. In the process of dataanalysis, the recordings from classroom observation and interview have been convertedinto text information, questionnaire data has been analyzed by SPSS software, and theresults are as follows:(1) About the application of LPGTM,1), According to the detailed analysis of a casestudy, the teacher’s words occupies70%of the whole class, while the students’ words occupies20%, other activities occupies10%. the total number of the words by teachersare (562) more than the words by students,(128); As for class activities, group activitiesis (0), pair works is (1), individual activities is (2) and whole class activities is (6); thediscourse starts by teachers is (38), starts by students is (0), starts by teachers andstudents together is (4); the teachers’ descriptive questions (16) are more than referencequestions (11).2), the students can do certain preparations before class, and they canconserve their learning plans in good order; some students use learning plan to dorevision. Thus, the teachers are still the main body of the classes after the application ofTMGLP, not the students.(2) As for the teachers and the students’ attitudes toward LPGTM, the attitudes ofthe teachers are varied. The teachers in Grade One are positive for they think that is thetrend of the teaching and learning although there are some difficulties in the process ofimplementation. They need to do some adjustment and balance but still willing to use thisteaching model continually. Teachers in Grade Two feel that the aim of this kind ofteaching model is good, nevertheless, they would rather use learning plans published byadvanced press. They question the qualities of the learning plans designed by their ownschool so that they suggest their school should pick up specialized teachers to do thedesigning work only. From questionnaire, the students’ attitudes toward the designing oflearning plan are positive. But they think the teaching effects of this teaching model arenot very good at the moment because they think this kind of teaching model can notreduce their learning burden and improve their autonomous learning abilities greatly in ashort period of time. It has no significant difference in different classes, sexes and theinteractions between them. Thus, the conclusions are:1) All of the teachers think that the aim of LPGTM isgood; it is also possible to be fulfilled.2) Students have benefited from LPGTM, theyhave done some preparation before class which to some extend has helped to cultivatethe students’ self-learning awareness.3) The quality of the learning plan needs improving.4) The students are satisfied with the designing of the learning plan and they likeLPGTM while they think the teaching effects of LPGTM are not satisfying at themoment. |
