With the expansion of the scale of education, postgraduate education which is to aim at the cultivation of high level creative talents,is facing the problem about optimal resource allocation and quality.Under the background of graduate students paying their tuition fees in 2014,the academic scholarship was established to motivate students to study hard, concentrate on scientific research, being innovative and enterprising, provide better support for graduate students to complete their studies successfully. This system reform sought to reward the outstanding performance of the best students, inspire the graduate student's learning motivation, revitalize postgraduate education. However can the value goal be fully realized in practice? The author experienced the implementation process of this policy and noticed the incentive effect had certain differences among students. In addition,we can know that the cognition of students is complicated and diversified through the early interviews.Through the literature review, this study focused on the main line of external incentive-subject cognition-behavior,and put forward the core hypothesis:graduate student's perception of academic scholarship is an important factor affecting their study engagement.Three progressive levels of research questions were designed:?What are the students, understanding and feelings about the academic scholarships?? How does the academic scholarship influence the investment of postgraduates??What is the specific mechanism of the academic scholarships that generate incentives for learning input? In order to explore the above problems in depth, this dissertation follows the principle of combining the quantitative analysis and qualitative research, using questionnaire survey and interview method, supplemented by text analysis method,to conduct a systematic analysis of the impact of academic scholarship. On the basis of combining with the characteristics of graduate students,College Students' learning engagement scale was revised, and the academic scholarship cognition scale was developed through exploratory factor analysis.Through the analysis of SPSS regression analysis results and qualitative interview data, this study explore how academic scholarships influence students' engagement by the tendency of postgraduates' cognition,so as to further improve the subsidy system, promote students' self-development and achieve the goal of educational reform. The main findings of this study are:there are three different kinds of orientation of postgraduates' cognition. Some students perceive scholarship as motivation to goal-oriented behavior, the others see as material support and money.Goal-oriented motivation is the value of combined external recognition and internal development.Postgraduates who pursue scholarships for material support and interests remain in the currency symbol level of the scholarship. The influence of academic scholarships on postgraduates' engagement is mainly reflected in the subjective and objective aspects:one is grade and the second is subject cognition. There was a significant difference in the learning input of the first-class scholarships and those who did not receive scholarships. When students' goal-oriented cognitive tendency is strong, their study engagement is higher.Graduate students who focus on external material incentives did not make significant changes in learning. In the regression model, with the addition of subjective cognition variables, the significance level of the objective grade is reduced gradually.Environmental awareness is the index of graduate students' satisfaction with implementation process of academic scholarship, and it has a significant positive correlation with the investment of graduate students.Graduate students are most dissatisfied with the authenticity of the scholarship evaluation results and concerned about the fairness of the assessment process. The accuracy of the evaluation criteria directly affects the adjustment and transformation of students' learning behaviors. The motivational adjustment process of postgraduates is the intrinsic mechanism of incentive effect. The incentive of academic scholarships is linked to the behavior of graduate students' learning and research engagement. When students are not pursuing academic achievement or unable to get their desired results and meet the requirements, they will be in the "amotivation" state. Therefore academic scholarships will not produce incentives. When students are only obeyed by external needs(material needs or pecuniary interests),scholarships will be a controlling factor that undermines the intrinsic motivation of self-development.But if the students change from the passive acceptance to the identity of the meaning of learning activities, and integrate the rules of the scholarship for self-improvement motivation to meet the psychological needs of ability, development and relatedness, they will significantly enhance the autonomy of behavior, achieve the internalization of external motivation and stimulate themselves. The general conclusion of this study is that the incentive of academic scholarships needs to be realized by the internalization of graduate students, and the value of education is crucial. Therefore, this study puts forward corresponding suggestions from the level of scholarship policy, graduate students and school education respectively.Firstly we should improve the faculty evaluation process, strengthen publicity and education, enhance spiritual incentives.Graduate students need to establish correct concept of value, promote the internalization of external motivation and improve the ability of self-education.Colleges and Universities must be concerned about the diversified development of students to meet the multi-level needs of students and pay attention to the differences in disciplines.
