A Study On STEM Education Center In American Public University

STEM Education has already been an important factor of Enhancing international competitiveness.America,the earliest advocate of STEM education,has been developing the STEM education in their country.In recent years,the American universities showed the prominent impact on the STEM education reform,established many STEM education center,which stimulate the American educational reform process.The Research on the American Universities STEM Education Center suggests the trend of the international education reform and provides the advance suggestions to Chinese STEM teaching training system ’ s innovation.This article focuses on the STEM education center in the American public university,using the Case study as the research method.The author takes six representative public universities’ STEM Education Center as an example,did the research on the goal of the establishment,the main target,the practical methods and the distinctive project of the STEM education center.On this basis,the author also analyses the main factor of the American University STEM education center,which are theflexible and powerful setting of the institution;establishing the communicating platform among the students,teachers and experts;integration of various social resources,teaching based on the project and so on.There are three main categories projects in the STEM Education Center of American public university,which are student’s interest training program of STEM education;teacher training program of STEM education and the resource integration project of STEM education.The STEM Education center in American University also have many deficiencies as they has a short history,for example,lack of a set of regular assessment system and the qualification for STEM teacher.The interaction among different education center is also weak.Combined with China’s reality,the author believe that we can focus on the integration of STEM education resources,enhancement of STEM students ’ practical experience,multi-part cooperation to promote the development of STEM education in China.
