Humanistic quality is defined as the internalization and integration of one's humanistic knowledge,humanistic feelings and humanistic behavior,embodied as one's personal traits such as temperament,ethical standard,thinking patterns,psychological qualities,social interaction and so on.Under the circumstance of quality-education,humanistic quality cultivation is regarded as an essential part of developing students' all-sided quality.In recent years,a lot of research has been conducted in universities,high schools and primary schools to highlight the importance of humanistic qualities and reveal the status quo of humanistic quality cultivation.However,most of the research remains theoretical while the exploration of practical approaches to achieve humanistic quality cultivation is of great shortage.Therefore,in accordance with the urgent call,the research conducted by the author on students' humanistic quality cultivation based on English expanding type course in Wenhai Junior High School aims to explore possible approaches to cultivate humanistic qualities.The research is designed to answer the following three questions:(1)What's the current situation of humanistic quality cultivation in junior high schools?(2)What is the effect of expanding type course in terms of students' humanistic qualities?(3)How should we cultivate humanistic qualities in English teaching in junior high schools?In this research,100 students of grade 7 in Wenhai Junior High School are chosen as the subjects,setting experimental group and control group for comparison.Two questionnaires and one interview are conducted,the first one of which is to investigate the current situation of students' humanistic qualities while the other,together with the interview,is to know the effects of English expanding type course in terms of students' humanistic qualities.Based on the analysis of questionnaires and the interview,major findings can be figured out as follows:(1)The current situation of junior high school students' humanistic quality is far from satisfaction,which mainly lies in narrow humanistic knowledge,lack of humanistic feelings,and weak awareness of humanistic behavior.Both internal cause and external cause contribute to the lack of students' humanistic qualities.(2)English expanding type course contributes a lot to students' humanistic quality cultivation,especially to humanistic knowledge and humanistic behavior.(3)According to the implementation of English expanding type course,some proposals are put forward to nurture students' humanistic qualities during the process of English teaching.
