For a long time, English teachers in junior high schools has accepted and practiced instructional theories of cognition. Under the guidance of these theories, the traditional English teaching is characterized by emphasizing learning language, taking words, sentences and grammar as the necessarily dominant factors. This kind of teaching aims at examinations but neglects students' development in such areas as learning methods, learning abilities, affections, values, creativity and practical abilities. It inevitably results in some negative effects in terms of students'physical and mental development such as the fact that they are weak in cultural attainment and poor at adapting themselves to society. With the fast development of society, more highly qualified talents are in great need. Therefore, schools should pay equal attention to humanistic education and scientific education, organically combining scientific education with humanistic education into the teaching of disciplinary courses.English language has a close relationship with humanism. The aim of English language teaching is not only how to teach students to learn a language but also to make them well informed with human culture and humanistic spirit. Therefore, humanistic education in English teaching has much realistic significance. The practice of humanistic education in English teaching cannot be accomplished in one action. It needs several methods and principles. Based on my teaching experience in junior high schools, this thesis makes useful explorations in the practice of humanistic education. This thesis intends to share experience with the fellow colleagues, hoping to get the criticism and corrections from them.In order to achieve success in the practice of humanistic education, we, being teachers, must spare no efforts.
