Expanding type course of middle school is one new-type school course that was putforward among the 2000 Shanghai second course teaching material reform. It, together withbasic course, research course, forms a new course structure. At present, this kind of new-typecourse development mode has already been carried on in some developed areas such asShanghai etc. Although expanding type course of middle school theoretical research andpractical exploration establishes the good foundation to the development and construction ofour country's basic education course of expanding, some obvious defects exist. Being on suchgeneral theory discussions as the analysis that most theories stay in the exposition, meaning ofthe concept etc, it is lack of concrete operation theoretical research. It causes the practice ofcourse development is only confined to several schools of a few developed areas. So, theresearch purpose of this text is to rely on the existing research results and practical experience,concentrate on the method, step and content of our country's basic education. Especiallyattempt to take "five open ports in southeastern China and Chinese modernization" as anexample, it lays particular emphasis on getting appropriate discussion of tactics. Adoptingsuch methods as educational action research, education making investigations and educationalexperiment etc, it seeks to aim at the thinking of expansion type of course development, whichis according to the current situation and demand for development of our country's basiceducation. It will make every effort to structure a consulting frame. This text is divided into four parts altogether: First part emphatically explains the basic situation of expanding type course of middleschool, including expanding the meaning of the course, expanding the relation betweenexpanding type course and a course of school, characteristic, function of expanding typecourse etc. Second part mainly expounds the fact theoretical foundation and developing condition ofexpanding course development. It describes in details from the school aspect, teaching aspectand personal aspect, and confirms with the concrete method of author's school where onestays. The third part expounds the expanding type course development approach of middleschool from the content of developing; develop subject, and the way of developing. The fourth part takes "five open ports in southeastern China and Chinese modernization"as an example to describe the set of the course contents for the expanding types for history ofmiddle school, the basis of content chooseing, step and two kinds of implementation modes ofcourse development.
