In China,school social workers are newly-developing as a kind of occupation.Nowadays China is in the stage of social reform,the great changes of which push the young who are accepting education at school to face a lot of impacts when they grow up,thus the severity of such problems is more and more particular about the student works in traditional education systems,and apparently professional school social work is playing a more and more important role.But in the current systems,school social works cannot work very well even though they hold a lot of expections,however unluckily those social workers have no accurate difinition,and they cannot function fully.The writer of this thesis is mainly talking about how the school social workers define their roles as leading social sevice suppliers,what kind of expections they have,how they carry out their role study and role play,what kind of problems they may meet and how they solve etc.This thesis takes the qualitative research method to make an interview with 8 front-line school social workers in 4 cities to know from the perspective of themselves those role expections from institutions,schools and the service targets.Besides,their role definition,play,study and imbalance are also parts of the content that need to be known.After research,the writer summarizes the role expections of school social workers as follows: guided by the social work professinal values,applying professional methods and techniques,combined with the actual requirements,cooperating all the service works with schools,solving real problems of the service targets to help their body and mind develop in harmony.The roles of school social workers can be divided into role definition study and role skill study.During the process of service,the social workers usually play roles as coordinator,companion,mentor,educator,propagator,teacher,and even administrative assistant.Their main jobs: first,to finish the fundamental and administrative tasks arranged by schools;second,to carry out professional social work services;third,to expand services according to the conditions of the social workers and schools.And the role imbalance includes ambiguous role definition,role confusion and role failure etc.According to the role imbalance of the social workers during their role playing,the writer proposes measures and suggestions just for futher discuss.For school social workers in role playing the role of the imbalance,the author put forward the following suggestion,only for discussion.First of all,the school should improve the quality of learning professional education of social work,promote school social workers professional quality;Second,school social workers to use platform,intensify propaganda,to improve the public understanding of school social work;Third,called on the government to formulate relevant policies and ensure the school social work smoothly;Fourth,the development localization school social work service mode.
