As a new teaching and learning resources, Micro course has quickly become a hot spot of research and practice in education field in recent years, micro course with its small capacity, simple and focusing learning goals, targeted learning content, can meet the learner's individual learning needs. In geography teaching, local geography micro course is a learning method based on the teaching videos, which is designed and developed to improve the learning efficiency.This paper takes the lesson "Ningxia Terrain" as an example and conducts the study on the design and development of local geography micro course of junior high school. First of all, this paper studies the current research of local geography education, the current research of the development of micro course, the theoretical basis and the main features of the micro course development. Based on development study, the development process of local geography micro course is designed. This paper analyze the prophase needs, mainly after learning content and learners' needs, the analysis shows that because of the comprehensiveness, regionality and practicality of local geography, there are certain difficulties in teachers' teaching and students' learning, there is a certain gap between the learners' learning achievements and teaching goals. Secondly, the strategy-making is based on the characteristics of the local geography, on the basis of situation-cultivation teaching strategy and inquiry-based teaching strategies, the content organization strategy of micro course teaching strategy as known as inquiry learning strategies of situational teaching suitable to local geography is proposed. Taking learning content analysis as premise, through different levels of analysis on general goal of teaching, goal of course, goal of chapter, goal of class, the learning points and the teaching goal of "Ningxia Terrain" are specified and the local geography micro teaching media are selected. Thirdly, after the prophase demand analysis, establishment and teaching strategies, the local geography micro class development is studied. Based on the production needs and methods of local geography micro course, case design and scripts writing are revised three times to be better. The production technology for the development of local geography micro course adopts processing softwares like Photoshop, Flash, Tricaster, Adobe Premiere Pro to finish the early preparation, photeshooting, later-stage production according to the requirements and production of micro course. Fourthly, Evaluations are carried out after each stage of research. The evaluation of micro course is closely combined with each step of the design and development of local geography micro lesson in reference with the evaluation standards of first Yinchuan micro lesson competition, the evaluation standards are definite, simple and easy to carry out.Finally, this study summarizes the design and development of local geography micro class in junior high school, and proposes the shortcomings of this study. The author continues to study the relevant issues that need to be solved by following study.
