In Declaration on Higher Education for the 21 st Century: Concepts and Action, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization says:”courses should include the ability of critical analysis and creative analysis, the ability of independent thinking and the ability of work with others in the multicultural condition.” So that students are able to analyze problems critically, come up with solutions to social problems and assume social responsibility. It is an information explosion society. Students’ critical thinking abilities should be cultivated, so they can adopt the society well. It is shown that: scholars tend to cultivate students’ critical thinking abilities using permeation method in specific subject teaching. And physics has the advantage of training students’ critical thinking abilities.Literature methods, questionnaire methods, and interview methods are used in this paper to help the author to study the situation of senior high students’ critical thinking abilities in physics. Based on existing research of theories and teaching practices, the author determines this study consists of six parts. The six parts are introduction, theoretical basis, feasibility of cultivate critical thinking abilities in senior high physics education, survey and analysis of physics critical thinking abilities training in senior high, methods case and effect of physics critical thinking abilities training in senior high, and summary and outlook.First: The introduction. In this part, the author mainly expounds the background of the research and points out that this subject belongs to author’s field. By searching literature, the author analyzes the situation in this field and identifies shortcomings in domestic research now. And the author explains the main purposes and methods of this study.Second: The theoretical basis. The author summarizes the origin and development of critical thinking, and defines the concept of critical thinking abilities and physics critical thinking abilities. Then, the author offers a proposal on how to be a rational and critical thinker. And the author clarifies the relationship between critical thinking abilities and other concepts of related thinking abilities. Finally, the author believes that the argument which is the theoretical basis for improving students’ physics critical thinking abilities is the central issue to cultivate critical thinking abilities.Third: The feasibility of cultivate critical thinking abilities in senior high physics education. In this section, the critical thinking abilities are related to physics education. The author believes that the characteristics of critical thinking abilities are conducive to the physics education and physics characteristics of the subjects in favor of critical thinking abilities, which demonstrates the feasibility of cultivate critical thinking abilities in senior high physics education.Forth: The survey and analysis of physics critical thinking abilities training in senior high. In this part, the author compiled two questionnaires on their own by referring Peng Meici’s CTDI-CV. The survey was carried out in a key school in Yantai. The author surveyed more than 200 students who are in four different levels of classes, and analyzed the current situation of senior high students’ physics critical thinking abilities.Fifth: The methods case and effect of physics critical thinking abilities training in senior high. Through the analysis of the fourth part above, the author proposed to Toulmin model of argumentation in teaching new lessons and exercises classes. And the author designs appropriate teaching cases in teaching new lessons. After nearly three months of practice, the author tests the students again. By comparing the results of the two tests, it is concluded that this approach is beneficial to cultivate students’ physics critical thinking abilities.Sixth: The summary and outlook. The author summarizes the research results, analyzes shortcomings in the study, and clear direction for the future research.
