The English-Chinese translation of civil aviation rules and regulations is of vital importance to the development of domestic civil aviation industry. On the basis of Text Typology proposed by Katharina Reiss and Order 8900.1,Volume 17 Safety Management System(2016)issued by FAA,the report conducts multi-perspective analyses on the source and target text at the syntactic level.According to Reiss’ s classification of text types,Volume 17 Safety Management System should be identified as the informative text, focusing on the use of straightforward and concise language to describe objective facts and complete information.Appropriate translation principles, such as faithfulness, conciseness and fluency, preciseness and standardization, should be followed in the process of practice. The source text of this translation practice has distinct syntactic features of similar or repeated structures, frequent use of passive voice and relatively long sentences. The translation techniques of lexicon insertion, voice conversion and syntactic linearity or reconstruction can be properly applied to present the target text. The purpose and significance of the report is to improve the translation quality and accuracy, and to promote the translation of civil aviation rules and regulations towards standardization in an efficient way.
