A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of FAA Flight Procedures And Airspace(Chapter 2)

With the rapid development of China’s civil aviation and its frequent exchanges with other countries,civil aviation regulations have become a bridge between civil aviation authorities and air carriers in various countries,therefore,the translation of civil aviation regulations has attracted more and more attention.Guided by the Skopos Theory proposed by Hans J.Vermeer,a famous German translation theorist,and taking the civil aviation regulatory document FAA Flight Procedures and Airspace(Chapter 2)as the translation text,this report studies the techniques and skills in the translation of civil aviation regulation texts.The translation practice covers the general rules of flight procedures,including the relevant provisions on charts,flight environment,utilization and monitoring of facilities,magnetic heading,standards of instrument flight procedures,communication and the weather.This report is based on the translation practice and is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the research content and report structure,chapter 2introduces the Skopos Theory,chapter 3 describes the translation process,chapter 4 analyzes specific cases from translation practice,and chapter 5 summarizes this translation practice report.During the process of translation,the author finds that the vocabulary of civil aviation regulation documents is rigorous and flexible,and the modal verbs are often used,besides,adverbial clauses and passive sentences are also frequently used.Therefore,the author summarizes the characteristics of typical terms and sentences in civil aviation regulation documents,and explores translation methods such as reinvention and syntactic linearity.The report shows that while translating civil aviation regulations,it is necessary for the translator to pay attention to theoretical knowledge,and at the same time,it is also necessary to consider the background,translation requirements and target audience.By writing this translation practice report,the author hopes to add some materials for translation studies in this field and provide some reference for translation practice of civil aviation regulation in the future.
