A Report On C-E Translation Of Tourism Commentary From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

The year 2017 is confirmed as cultural tourism year in Bozhou City,Anhui Province.It is an important measure to carry out the five-development principle and implement green development;it also speeds up the construction of cultural tourism and opens up a new road for the economic and social transformation of Bozhou city.Under these circumstances,the author chooses tourism commentary of the city as the translation text in order to publicize local tourism resources,highlight Chinese traditional culture and promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries.Skopostheorie believes that the purpose of translation determines the translation strategy.Translators should take target readers’ acceptability and the purpose of target text into consideration to adopt flexible translation strategies,which plays a crucial guiding role in completing this translation task.The source text belongs to tourism publicity materials with resourceful information involving many historical events,literary works and traditional culture,which possesses the characters of objectivity and literariness.While emphasizing objectivity,tourism commentary also pays attention to the appeal of language for the purpose of stimulating tourism consumption.The author attaches more importance to accuracy,conciseness and cross-cultural transmission of the target text in the process of translation.The purpose of translation determines translation strategies and methods,so the author mainly analyzes the two aspects of vocabulary and sentence and adopts the appropriate translation strategies and methods to improve the reader’s readability.Culture-loaded words are major obstacles for the exchange of China and foreign countries,and the author adopts the combination of domestication and foreignization and mainly uses translation methods such as literal translation plus annotation,amplification,omission and free translation.Long sentences include ancient poems and complex sentences,and the former mainly adopts the free translation to understand its meaning instead of formal equivalence;the latter mainly adopts division and restructuring.The report is mainly divided into five parts.The first chapter mainly introduces the research background and the characteristics of source texts.The second chapter is task description,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation management.The third chapter is selection of translation strategies from the perspective of Skopos Theory.The fourth chapter,the focus of this report,is case analysis of the translation methods and techniques the author uses;the last chapter summarizes findings and shortcomings,hoping to provide reference for readers in relevant fields.
