The Mianyang Museum is rich in exhibits, holding unique local “money tree”(a legendary tree that sheds coins when shaken),“Horse of the Han Dynasty” and other collections,is an important place to present the local history and culture. Therefore, the project of Chinese-English translation of the commentary of Mianyang Museum has been put on the agenda in order to present the local folk customs and culture of Mianyang to foreign friends. This report mainly selected the commentaries of three exhibition halls of the Mianyang Museum for analysis. This original text belongs to the theme of publicity, and it has many culture-loaded words and terminologies of historical relics. As a result, the author has made a lot of preparation for translation, including the analysis of the original text, the induction and arrangement of terminologies of the original text, the selection of translation tools, and the analysis and summary of parallel corpus.Since the purpose of the project aimed to effectively introduce the cultural relics and heritage of the museum to foreign friends, the author employed Hans Vermeer’s “Skopos Theory” as the theoretical guidance. The theory implies that the first principle of translation should be to realize the expected function of the target text in the target language culture. Therefore, under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the author selected appropriate translation strategies and methods. In most cases, the author adopted Free Translation, and mainly used Transliteration,Annotation,Amplification, and Omission in the translation process. This report aims to provide some ideas to solve the difficulties in translation of relevant texts.
