This is a translation project report on Introduction and Part ?—? of Getting Started in Ballet:A Parent's Guide to Dance Education, which is published by Oxford University in 2016.This source text aims at making parents understand the development of ballet by the recent years and the interactions among ballet and the other types of dance so that parents are able to choose the dance that suits their children the best.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory, this report seeks to solve the problem that the second readers have difficult in understanding the source text as much as that of the original readers and also in understanding the terminology by applying the translation techniques of sequence, inversion, conversion and amplification. The translation report consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces background and significance of the translation task from the whole. The second chapter points out the translation basis of project, the communicative translation theory, and then analyzes the source text through its functional, stylistic, and syntactic features and brings about the translation tactic. The third chapter makes the prediction of the important and difficult points in translation;demonstrates how the communicative translation tactic is applied in the ST to overcome the difficulty caused by the different cultural background. The last chapter makes a summary and demonstrates the problem that is likely to appear in the future.
