This thesis is an English to Chinese translation report. The original text is excerpted from Techniques and Principles in Language Teaching. It was written by Diane Larsen-Freeman,a professor of English linguistics at the University of Michigan. This book mainly introduces some teaching methods in language teaching, and it aims to provide practical and step-by-step guidance for new language teachers and introduce new methods and teaching concepts to more experienced teachers. The original text consists of 12 chapters,of which Chapter 2 to Chapter 11 each presents a particular teaching method. The translator of the present project hopes that readers can understand the teaching methods in language teaching from her job and can apply them to teaching activities. This translation project chooses the fourth and fifth chapter of the book(approximately 14000 words),which mainly describe the Audio-Lingual Method and the Silent Way in language teaching. The book has not yet been translated into Chinese. In the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory and Hans Vermeer’s Skopos Theory, the translator deals with the task by using translation skills such as free translation, domestication and transformation. And the translator explores the cultural differences encountered in translation, and tries to make the original text and translation consistent in style,so as to make the target language readers easier to accept.Through this translation practice, the translator concluded we should not only have solid professional knowledge, but also accumulate abundant practical experiences. In the study and work,we should strengthen our understanding of translation theories, and only in this way can we do better in translation practice.
