The report is based on the author’s simulated C-E simultaneous interpreting of two lectures from the program Legal Lecture for August 11th and 12th,2015.Foreign audience’s lack of background knowledge is the major difficulty for the author’s interpreting,including:1)four-character words, idioms and Chinese sentence structures;2)special collocations, historical and cultural expressions.According to Carrell’s schema theory, the previously acquired knowledge structures are called schemata which can be divided into formal and content schemata. And readers understand the text with top-down and bottom-up processing. In top-down processing, the new information first meets the schemata at the bottom level, goes through from bottom to the top and be kept as old schemata. In bottom-up processing, viewers will predict with their schemata at the highest level, check the coming messages and make them comply with the existing ones.Under the guidance of the schema theory, the author comes up with the following coping tactics:1)changing schemata;2)activating similar schemata;3)removing ambiguities;4)keeping one schema;5)presenting cultural and historical connotations;6)Adding historical information;7)applying previous schemata. The author has learned the basic principles and coping tactics for audience’s lack of schemata with her report, and hopes others will benefit from it.
