| SQA Mandarin Beginner-Intermediate Test is a Chinese profic-iency test,which is unique to Scotland.However,relevant research is still lagging behind with little effect.In light of this,the authors have introduced the features of SQA Mandarin Test and why it has emerged in terms of grade classification,test method,characteristics of proposition and content of examination after the comparison with the new HSK.Additionally,some teaching suggestions have been p-rovided for SQA Mandarin Beginner-Intermediate Test.After analysis,several conclusions have been drawn as follows in the thesis:First,as for grade classification.The result of SQA Mandarin Beginner-Intermediate Test involve different rating grades;Written a-nd oral exams share the same form of hierarchy.Second,test environment is explored from three perspectives,including students’ familiarity with examination venue and using eq-uipment,two types of investigators and test description focusing on such paper structure that is able to comprehensively test linguistic skills.Time distribution for tests at different levels is uncertain.Exa m questions are described in English.As for the approach to answer ing,requirement for language expression is low.Additionally,there are two paper versions,namely papers in simplified and traditional Chin-ese.Third,examination questions for listening,reading,speaking a-n d writing test are discussed one by one.Specially,listening test gi-v es priority to short-answer questions with the supplement as choiceq uestions and gap filling,and most listening materials are related t-o"society";writing test prefers essay questions to choice questionsa nd gap filling with a vast majority of topics about "employment",a nd dictionary can be consulted during the test and word lists are pr ovided for external examinations;with respect to speaking test,w-hic h is characterized by strong interaction,essay questions and per-son al statements respectively account for a large and small portion,and analysis and integration method for grading as well as various topics have been applied for different levels.In terms of writing t-est,it involves writing based on a short essay already in place and direct test,and its topics focus on "society".Fourth,examination content is investigated lexically and gram-matically.In the aspect of vocabulary,the vocabulary emerging in SQA Mandarin Beginner-Intermediate Test has a high coincidence r-ate with the vocabulary contained in Outline,and the former is mo-re difficult.With respect to grammar,the coincidence rate between the grammar for SQA Mandarin Beginner-Intermediate Test and Out line is also high,but the test features difficult and strongly system-atic grammar as well as inconsistency between grammar description and test questions.As a whole,SQA Mandarin Beginner-Intermedia-te Test is more difficult than the new HSK.Fifth,the recommendations for SQA Mandarin Beginner-Interme-diate Test are presented in the end.First of all,totally understand the advantages of SQA Chinese Test in Scotland.Secondly,know Scottish educational concept.Thirdly,get the whole picture of SQA Chinese Test and have a thorough grasp of the standards of SQA Chinese Test.Finally,draw lessons from Scottish "interdisciplinary"teaching(teaching method),incorporate more words to broaden stu-dents’ vocabulary(vocabulary),add some grammatical knowledge n-ot covered in Outline for beginners(grammar),and place emphasis on certain types of topics for listening,reading,speaking and writi-ng(topics). |
