Medical research articles aim to improve people's awareness of the importance of medicine.Medical text is characterized by professional vocabularies and terms and a large number of abbreviations.Passive voice is widely used in medical research articles.Translators, therefore, need to be aware of how to deal with passive voice effectively. This report is based on the translation of the article Efficacy and safety of human papillomavirus vaccine for primary prevention of cervical cancer:A review of evidence from phase III trials and national programs published in The South Asian Journal of Cancer. The article analyzes studies on HPV vaccine safety with detailed research and data, and proves that HPV vaccines do prevent cervical cancer. The report is divided into four parts. The First part analyzes the translation materials and clarifies the innovative points and the significance of this report. The second part introduces Eugene A.Nida's theory of functional equivalence, including three phases of its development, content and significance. The third part tells how the author applies the theory to translation practices via three levels of equivalence:lexicon, syntax and style. The last part concludes the report. It turns out that Nida's functional equivalence theory is instructive and guiding when medical research articles are translated. The translation practice,to some extent, offers some specific and problem-solving skills for translators who may have interest in medical translation.
