With the rapid development of medical technology and the in-depth study of philosophy, people pay more and more attention to the ethical issues in medical field, especially the ethical issues related to the new field of biomedical enhancement.Biomedical enhancement can help people become stronger physically or mentally, but what level of enhancement is reasonable? Why shouldn’t radical enhancement be widely used? The original text of this report is selected from Truly Human Enhancement:A Philosophical Defence of Limits by Nicholas Agar, which is the author’s reflection and discussion on this issue. This translation practice report introduces the background of translation, analyzes the features of the original text, introduces Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory in detail, and discusses the application of specific translation strategies and methods based on specific cases. In the process of translation, the translator applies the Theory of Functional Equivalence and chooses the corresponding translation methods to achieve the functional equivalence between the source text and the target text to the greatest extent from the lexical, syntatic and textual levels, which helps the target language readers to properly understand the content of the source text and greatly improves the quality of the translation. The results of this study show that Nida’s Theory of Functional Equivalence is applicable to the translation of medical ethics texts. In addition, this translation report is also innovative, hoping to guide the English-Chinese translation of medical ethics works in the future. The translation of this work can also help domestic researchers to broaden their horizons and better study the relevant ethical issues.
