As globalization goes deeply,countries gain advanced information from each other in science and technology.Due to complexity of historic reasons,China is still lagged behind by developed countries in the marine engineering area,urging to absorb advanced knowledge from other countries,which means more Marine English documents to be translated.As a significant branch of EST(English for Science and Technology),Marine English also presents tendency of using more nouns,passives,with complex sentence structures,among which the Building Blocks in Marine English,formed by nouns or nouns combining with other words,has intricate logical relationship inside so as to intensify the translation practice.This report introduces the definition and basic classes of Building Blocks,which are compound and nominalization,and seeks four translation strategies including literal translation for basic compounds and combined compounds with simple relationship in qualifying,structure adjustment,logical analysis and sentence segmentation for nominalizations and Building Blocks with complexed relationship in qualifying.Besides,in order to give readers a whole picture of this translation practice and rewarding reference,this report also describes the translation background and process in detail,and analyzes translation materials.
