| With a roaring economy and soaring national power,China has gained momentum in marine development with great accomplishments in shipbuilding industry with regard to both military field and in civil ends. However,it is an inconvenient fact that China is still a chaser behind developed countries in this field, which calls for more advanced technologies and other information to be brought in from abroad. Therefore, the need for foreign-language materials, especially for English texts is surging up,hence a higher demand for the translation of those materials from English into Chinese. But,Marine English with its own characteristics may cripple the translation and thus require effective strategies to facilitate the process. In view of these, the report makes an exploration into the characters of the multi-branch-from-one-stem structure by taking US Navy Diving Manual as the object. The findings are as follows: the structure is a linguistic form whose constituents are intertwined with each other;the structure is flexible and intricate;the structure takes on various types including subject+predicate verb, verb+object, preposition+object, etc. On the basis of the characteristics analysis, the report puts forward the strategies for the E-C translation of Marine English, such as the strategy of syntactic linearity, the strategy of inversion, the strategy of disconnection(on word level),and the strategy of disconnection(on sentence level). In addition, the report makes detailed description about the whole process of the translation practice including the description of translation tasks, text analysis, and auxiliaries to translation,in an effort to facilitate the study of other translators as reference. |
