Report On The Translation Of Economic And Fiscal Update: Supplement To The 2016-2017 Budget Address (Excerpt)

After the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Fiji,their bilateral trade is in steady development.According to official statistics from Ministry of Industry,Trade and Tourism of Fiji,numbers of registered corporations and projects from China have achieved the largest portion of foreign investment in Fiji.In 2015,foreign investment in Fiji has reached 25% of GDP and it will be increased to 30% in 2020.Although trading between China and Fiji is increasing,Chinese version of Fiji's policies is still rare.Based on text typology theory of Peter Newmark,translation practice of “ECONOMIC AND FISCAL UPDATE: SUPPLEMENT TO THE 2016-2017 BUDGET ADDRESS' is conducted with the purposes of providing information for Chinese companies and assisting Chinese companies' investment and development in Fiji.Therefore,this translation practice has practical significance.According to Peter Newmark's text typology theory,the emphasis of informative text is the truth in information.With the emphasis on development priorities and financial conditions at present and in future,the selected budget translation text is informative text of financial English.In Peter Newmark's text typology,communicative translation is suitable for the translation of informative text.Thus,the translation practice of Fiscal Update is conducted under the guidance of communicative translation with the aim of achieving the same effect of ST among TT readers while solving the problems from accuracy level,cultural compatibility level and information fidelity level.In the part of case studies,accuracy at lexical level solves problems in the translation of abbreviations and technical terms.Cultural compatibility at syntactical level solves problems in voice and sentence structure.And information fidelity solves the problems in translation from textual aspect and syntactical aspect.After the introduction of background information,existed problems,solutions,applied theories and strategies in translation practice,the vital factor of text typology has been approved in the translation practice.Meanwhile,the translator also recognizes a good translation work is the sublimation form of understanding,conversion and knowledge.After the translation practice of Fiscal Update,the translator hopes it could provide referential solutions and ideas for future translation practice of budget translation.
