A Study Of Related Factors Of Mobile Phone Dependence In High School Students And The Group Psychological Intervention

Objective:To know the status of high school students' mobile phone dependence,and explore the relationships between mobile phone dependence and other social-psychological factors.To explore the effects of Group Psychological intervention on mobile phone dependence of high school students.Methods:1.Investigation ResearchUsing individual general situation questionnaire,Mobile phone addiction index scale,Self-rating Anxiety Scale,Self-rating Depression Scale,Eysenck Personality Questionnaire,Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List,Adolescent Resilience scale,Adolescent learning burnout scale,The Feelings of Inadequacy Scale,Social Avoidance and Distress Scale,testing all the students recruited from grade 2 of one high school in Taiyuan,to know the status of mobile phone dependence and to analyse the relationships between mobile phone dependence and other social psychological factors.2.Intervention Research100 high school students with mobile phone dependence were randomly divided into experimental group and control group,all signed the informed consents.The experimental group received a 2 hours' group Psychological intervention once a week,for 6 weeks(6cycles)and the control group did not received any intervention.Testing the two groups with Mobile Phone Addiction Index Scale,Self-rating Anxiety Scale,Self-rating Depression Scale,Adolescent Resilience Scale,Adolescent Learning Burnout Scale,The Feelings of Inadequacy Scale,Social Avoidance and Distress Scale before and after thetraining for one month,to value the effect the social-psychological intervention on high school students' mobile phone dependence.Results:1.Investigation Research Results(1)The scores of MPAI of high school students are ranging form17 to 85.The rate of high school students' mobile phone dependence is 25.9%,in which 50 are male students and the male's rate of mobile phone dependence is 26.3 %,69 are the female and the female's rate of mobile phone dependence is 25.7 %.There is a sex difference on withdrawal dimension of high school students' mobile dependence(p<0.05),but no differences on the dimensions of out-of control,escape,low-efficiency and total scores of mobile phone dependence(p>0.05).High school students with liberal arts or sciences and living in dormitory of school or not,have no significant difference on every dimensions of mobile phone dependence(p>0.05).The students with lower level of family economic scored more than the students with normal level and higher level in dimensions of out-of control and escape and the total scores of mobile phone dependence(p<0.05).(2)Mobile phone dependence is significantly positively associated with anxiety,depression,neuroticism characteristic,all dimensions of Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List,all dimensions of Learning Burnout Scale,all dimensions of Social Avoidance and Distress Scale(p<0.05),and is significantly negatively associated with lie dimension of characteristic,all dimensions of resilience,all dimensions of The Feelings of Inadequacy Scale(p<0.05),but no significant relationships with Psychoticism and Extraversion dimensions of characteristic(p>0.05).(3)Multiple step-wise linear regression analyses showed that the major factors affects mobile phone dependence are anxiety,self-esteem,interpersonal relationships,social avoidance,neuroticism characteristic,positive cognition,learning alienation and emotion controlling.They can explain 50.3% variation of depression.2.Intervention Research ResultsOne month after the intervention,tested the two groups' mobile phone dependenceand other social psychological factors.d1 is the D-values of scores of after intervention and before intervention in experimental group.d2 is the D-values of scores of after intervention and before intervention in control group.Using t-test to compare the d1 and d2,and found that compared to the control group,there are significant improvements in experimental group at out of control,escape and low-efficiency dimensions and total scores of mobile phone dependence,anxiety,depression,emotion controlling,positive cognition,family support and social help dimensions and totally average score of resilience,low-achievement dimension and total score of learning burnout,all dimensions and total score of The Feelings of Inadequacy Scale,and all dimensions and total score of Social Avoidance and Distress Scale(p<0.05),but no significant improvement at withdrawal dimension of mobile phone dependence,goal concentration dimension of resilience,and body-mind exhaust and learning alienation dimensions of learning burnout scale(p>0.05).Conclusions:(1)The rate of mobile phone dependence in high school students is 25.9% from our study.(2)Anxiety,self-esteem,interpersonal relationships,social avoidance,neuroticism characteristic,positive cognition,learning alienation and emotion controlling are the factors that have influences on mobile phone dependence of high school students.(3)Group psychological intervention can relieve the mobile phone dependence of high school students,and reduce their anxiety,depression learning burnout,social avoidance and distress,and improve their resilience and self-esteem.
