This practice report is based on the internship experience in US-China Business Council(USCBC).During the internship,th e author has trans-written 109 English business reports from Chinese source information,classified the problems occurred in the C-E trans-writing of business reports,and provided solutions to the problem s under the guidance of T ranslation Variation Theory and audience analysis.There are three categories of problems:(1)problem s in dealing with m ultiple information sources;(2)problems in dealing with logica l relationships in source inf ormation;(3)problems in dealing with m ass-data source information.Through audience analysis,the characteristics of the audience of USC BC business reports have been determ ined and the solutions to those problems are selected to meet the demands of the tar get audience.The solutions to the problem s are narrating translation,condensing translation,summarizing translation,editing translation,summarizing translation with comment,complete translation,an d adding as the trans-writing strategy,partition pattern,general-to-specific pattern,more-important-to-less-important pattern and classification pattern a s the inf ormation organizational pattern as well as th e combination of these solutions.Th is practice report is one of th e pioneering studies using audience analysis in guiding the selection of trans-writing strategies for business reports,and it could offer reference for the pr e-job training of the trans-writers of the similar business repor ts,MT students' training of related skills and the quality improvement of the similar trans-writing products.
