A Report On The Translation Of One Article On English Of Petroleum

The translation of Petroleum English is an important medium and bridge of the communication and cooperation in the transnational economic activities of the petroleum industry.At present,C hina’s o il industry has a rapid development in foreign cooperation and international management.Meanwhile,the translation of Petroleum English has become an extremely important part of the translation field.As a kind of ESP,the Petroleum English has strong specialties,which is different from common text translation,which merely needs proficient bilingual language knowledge and certain translation skills and strategies.While the translation of Petroleum English needs more than the above qualities.It needs professional background knowledge and higher language competence of the translator.The materials of this translation practice are one article of the Petroleum English selected from the SPE.Through verification in many ways,the article has no Chinese translation version.Under the guidance of the Newmark’s text-typology theory,the translator integrated a variety of translation principles and strategies,with the aid of many translation tools,parallel texts,and online resources,finally completed the translation of this material.This translation report includes four parts: the task description,the process description,the case study,and the conclusion.In this translation practice,the author tried to summarize and analyze the vocabulary and syntax characteristic of the Petroleum English,and explore the corresponding translation strategies.Meanwhile,in combination with the Newmark’s text-typology theory,this report discussed the translation principles and criteria of the Petroleum English.This will be helpful for oil professional English learning,and improve the quality and efficiency of the translation work.
