Report On The Translation Of California Education Code(Excerpt)

This is a report of the translation of California Education Code(Excerpt).California Education Code is enacted by the California State Legislature to regulate the California education system.The purpose of translating this code is to introduce an advanced foreign education law into China.However,due to the time limitation and the limited capability of the translator,the translator only translated the first part of the code.In the task,to ensure the professionalism and accuracy of the translation,the translator has not only found a book from which the translator learned a general knowledge of the US education law,and two parallel texts which reflect the lexical and syntactic features of legal texts in TL,but also made out a glossary list and a workable quality control procedure to guarantee the quality of TT.Besides,the translator also met with some problems during translation,and to solve these problems and create a reliable TT,the translator has utilized a number of strategies in this task.In this report,the translator will mainly discuss those problems and their corresponding strategies from the lexical and syntactic perspectives,such as the translation of common words with uncommon meaning,legal jargon and neologisms,and the translation of long and complicated sentences,as well as conditional sentences.Though there may be some limitations to this task.The final result is satisfactory.The translator wishes to make some contribution to the domestic legal translation through this task.
