The General Provisions of the Civil Law of the People's Republic of China(hereinafter referred to as "GPCL")is adopted on March 15,2017,effective as of October 1,2017.After preliminary research, the author has found out that there is still no official English translation of GPCL in China, not alone detailed research on the translation of this Law.Therefore, the author hopes to evaluate the translation quality of the translated English version of this Law from the perspective of legal discourse information structure. The data for research is from GPCL and its two English versions. In this paper, the legal discourse information structure will be adopted as the analysis tool,as well as the information bridge theory, which stresses the social-cultural system, the linguistic conventions, the legal system and the discourse users' stance will exert effect on legal translation. Moreover, based on functional equivalence theory, three criteria, namely, accuracy in meaning, clarity in style and naturalness in expression and its parameters are presented for legal translation analysis,to analyze information change during translation, and to assess the quality of the English text. Therefore, based on the information structure and elements' analysis,a quality assessment model is established to conduct the ST and the two TTs of translated versions of GPCL under information bridge perspective and equivalence theory. The author hopes to explore a model for quality assessment of legal translation, and provides a reference for future legal text translation and future research.
