| Being a type of legal texts, legislative text refers to laws and regulations legally issued by the national legislation with common binding force to each citizen. Based on the translation of Animal Drug and Animal Generic Drug User Fee Reauthorization Act of2013, the paper has a detailed analysis on the translation strategy of such legislative text in view of the text type and linguistic features. First of all, this paper illustrates a brief introduction on the translation material and the background of legal translation with a review on the development of legal translation as well as the application of text typology in legal translation study. Secondly, this paper introduces Reiss’s text typology theory, arriving at the conclusion that legislative text belongs to information text with expressive and vocative features. Then it discussed the linguistic features on three levels including discourse, sentence structure and lexical characters. Thirdly, this paper has a thorough analysis based on the discussion made before on the translation strategy of legislative texts. Finally, the paper comes to a conclusion that with the analysis of linguistic features, text typology theory can be used in legislative translation. |
