Wedding custom is one of the most representative customs among nations. It is also an indication of cultural diversities of different countries. In traditional Chinese wedding ceremony, the bride generally wears a red gown which symbolizes happiness, good luck and success. While the main color of the bride's wedding dress in the west is white. The bride usually wears a white wedding dress, representing purity and faithfulness.Besides, the wedding speeches in various nations can also show the diversities of the wedding customs.Based on Nida's Functional Equivalence, this practice report explores the English-Chinese translation of western wedding speeches. It is a new field to study on the translation of western wedding speeches. The second part of Social Speeches, the main content of which is western wedding speeches given by the bride's father, the bridegroom and the best man,is selected as the source text of the practice report. There are many samples under each part of the wedding speeches. The content of them is diversified. Many stories and epigrams can be found in the speeches. The samples in the speeches are of great reference value.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence, this practice report shows the problems at the lexical, syntactic and textual levels,as well as the translation strategies and techniques, such as free translation, conversion of classes, negation, and adjustment of cohesive words,to solve these problems. The purpose and the findings of the study are illustrated in the conclusion of this practice report.
