| Vast differences exist between English and Chinese. And one of them is that Enlish is more abstract while Chinese is more concrete in expressing the same idea. The method of abstract diction is often found in the frequent use of abstract nouns, so successfully translating English abstract nouns into Chinese is one of the important ways to achieve “functional equivalenceâ€. This thesis attempts to discuss how to reflect the concreteness of Chinese language and finally achieve “functional equivalence†through various techniques of dealing with English abstract nouns in the translation of Chapter 1-2 of Leadership in the Era of Economic Uncertainty. |
