A Study About Thai Students’ Chinese Learning Outside The Classroom At Guangdong University Of Foreign Studies

Compared with other Thai students who study Chinese in Thailand,Thai students who study Chinese in China have got more advantages because they are obviously surrounded by so many learning environment of the Chinese language and they also get to speak with native speakers even more.This research is done by using questionnaires and interviews and this research is done with the Thai students here in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in order to study how effective their learning outside the classroom is According to the research,most of the Thai students think that learning outside the classroom with more Chinese learning environment such as communicating with Chinese people,having Chinese people teach them and learning Chinese by travelling around definitely helps them improve their Chinese language.But they do not pay attention to extracurricular reading and they almost do not go to the library.After making the questionnaire survey,five students,including the trainees,undergraduates and graduate students,were selected to have a detailed interview.The students who are interviewed agreed that learning Chinese in Thailand have the opportunity to speak Chinese only in the class.When they go out of the classroom there is no chance to speak Chinese.The Chinese environment is very important for learing Chinese,so it is a better choice to learn Chinese in China.Although there are many opportunities in China to chat with the Chinese people,but sometimes they cannot understand the words of the Chinese people,mainly because their vocabulary is not rich enough,Chinese students who are learning Thai language are the best partner to communicate together.According to the Interview,combined with my own Chinese learning experience,this article finally give three suggestions to the Chinese learning students: firstly they must learn to cultivate their own interest in extracurricular learning,secondly they should choose the appropriate way of learning extracurricular,thirdly they should consciously monitor their own extracurricular learning effect.
