Euphemism is a common language phenomenon and plays an important role in interpersonal communication.Based on the ontology research of the euphemism,this paper takes Ukrainian students of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University as a case of study,through the way of questionnaire survey,investigating the Ukrainian students frequently used Chinese euphemisms acquisition,and analyzing the reason of Ukrainian students euphemisms acquisition errors,then putting forward suggestions and strategies of the improvement of Ukrainian students euphemism acquisition level.This article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,it’s main focus is the background of the selected topic,significance,purpose,method,main object and current situation of the research.The second chapter is a comparative study of Chinese and Ukrainian frequently used euphemisms.The comparison of Chinese and Ukrainian euphemisms is based on two main functions of the euphemisms: taboo enforcement and politeness reflection.By comparing euphemisms in two different languages,the author proves Chinese and Ukrainian euphemisms to have many differences and similarities.As the core object of the research is Ukrainian students of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University,the author turned the teaching material “New Practical Chinese textbook”(Vol.1-5)used by Ukrainian students into the main source of the euphemisms for the research.The third and the forth chapters are the main focus of the research.In the third chapter author uses the method of combining quantitative and qualitative analysis and through the way of questionnaire for Ukrainian students of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University investigates Ukrainian students’ mastery of basic knowledge of euphemisms,understanding and usage of Chinese euphemism words and sentences.The author also analyzes the reason of Ukrainian students frequently used Chinese euphemisms acquisition errors.The fourth chapter discusses how to improve the level of Ukrainian students’ euphemism acquisition and provides both students who learn Chinese language as well as teachers who teach Chinese as a foreign language with suggestions and advices on how to make the process of learning and then using Chinese euphemisms more efficient for the Ukrainian students.As a result of our investigation,some major problems were discovered.First of all,there were established the main similarities and differences in Ukrainian and Chinese euphemism.Secondly,the survey designed for Ukrainian students revealed Ukrainian students were much better in understanding the meaning of Chinese euphemism rather than applying them in the communication.In addition,the survey also shows Ukrainian students are better in mastering the understanding and application of taboo enforcement euphemism rather than the ones that reflect politeness.Finally,this paper puts forward some teaching suggestions for teachers,students and some improvement tips for teaching materials.Teachers should pay more attention to whether students can properly use Chinese euphemism.Students should get a better understanding of Chinese culture to increase the knowledge of some Chinese euphemism that are different from the ones in Ukrainian language.Teaching material should include some daily life topics and related exercises to help students immerge into Chinese language environment and thus get a better chance to practice the usage of Chinese euphemism. |
