A Practice Report On C-E Consecutive Interpreting Of The General History Of China(Episode 1 And 2)

This is a practice report on the C-E interpreting of the General History of China.The reasons why the author chose this documentary lie in three aspects:Firstly,date back to the history of human civilization,there were four breathtaking great ancient civilizations.However,time goes by,only the eternal Chinese nation is now standing on the top of world civilization.Therefore,it becomes an incumbent duty for Chinese young generation to spread and broaden profound Chinese traditional culture.Secondly,with the further development of globalization,China has more connections with Eastern countries in aspects of economy and culture,and interpreting plays a vital role for communicating among cultures.Thirdly,when the author worked as a trainee teacher at Shangdong University(Weihai),she took charge of interpreting the first and the second episode of this documentary for exchanges students who come from Australia.Based on these reasons,the author interpreted the documentary subtitle of a documentary of CCTV--the General History of China(episode 1and 2).Under the guidance of interpreting variation theory,the author tries to summarize several interpreting strategies,which she used in her interpreting practice,such as explanatory interpreting,interpreting and editing and selective interpreting.All of them are main translating strategies of interpreting variation theory.The author also sums up the problems and difficulties and puts forward some reflections and suggestions for future interpreting.This report involves six parts: The first part introduces the project including the source,background and significance.The second part is the pre-preparations the author made for interpreting,with analysis of subtitle interpreting,analysis of interpreting variation theory and preparation of words with Chinese characteristics in the interpreting material and equipment involved.The third part is the interpreting process,in which the author recorded the interpreting process and mistakes she has made.As forthe fourth part,the author shows the strategies such as explanatory interpreting,interpreting and editing and selective interpreting.The fifth part is the evaluation about the Interpreting material,and the author makes self-evaluation and records the feedback of target audiences.In chapter six,major inspirations and lessons achieved through the interpreting are summarized.This report shows that the target source will be simple,effective and understandable with the help of interpreting variation theory.
