With the development of the ages,the female artists pay more and more attention to their own existence,which is concluded by their understanding on life and society with the self-portrait.In this paper,we carry out sufficient comparison study on Yu-liang Pan and Freda,who were the most famous female artists of different countries around the same time.Through this research,we can obtain a deep understanding of their momentum for creation,techniques,emotion,and so on,and make further investigation about the feature of the western and eastern female artists self-portrait.There seem no intersection between Yu-liang Pan and Freda in reality,but their works have so much similarity and comparability.They all attache stormy personal life to the art,and integrate personal emotion with self-portrait highly.With no exception,all these details illustrate the art,emotion and survey on society of female artists.In general,their self-portrait injecte new vitality to female art,which serves as a connecting link between the preceding and the following of the art's development.This paper carry out deep study through the literature research,works analysis,viewing an exhibit,and so on.First,we summarize an make a comparison for their personal circumstances.Next,from the perspective of their individual learning,social background and ethnic factor,we make an in-depth comparison and analysis of these great effect on their self-portrait.Moreover,we analyze the similarities and differences of self-portrait through the composition of pictures,colors,lines and female sensibility thoroughly,and therefore,we can grasp the essence of art.Meanwhile,Yu-liang Pan and Freda's self-portraits are loved by the masses,which reflects that the self-portraits have strong cognitive and aesthetic function.Aiming at this point,we explore the social significance and value of their two self-portraits.Additionally,we summarize the similarities and differences between Chinese and western female self-portrait via the law of historical development.Simultaneously,we put forward our individual artistic creation way and thoughts on future research direction of self-portrait.
