A Study Of The English Translation Of Chinese Network Catchwords In The Context Of World English

With the rapid development of Internet,the popularity of Internet opens a new era of communication and there are a number of network catchwords coming into the people's daily life.As a cultural carries,network catchwords have their own deep cultural implication.In the process of translation,sometimes,it is difficult to find the corresponding vocabulary in the target language.How to appropriately translate these Chinese network catchwords into English becomes a worthwhile question,therefore,the research has certain theoretical value and practical significance.The World English context provides a perspective for the translation of network catchwords.As the globalization of English,English has become a lingua franca.The globalization of English inevitably leads to the nativization of English in the world.In China,it produces China English-a regional English Variety-with Chinese characteristics.China English plays a great role in the intercultural translation.This thesis summarizes the word-formation and linguistic features of network catchwords,and then explores strategies and methods of English translation of network catchwords in the context of World English.Through the analysis of lots of examples of Chinese network catchwords,the author concluded that in the process of translating Chinese network catchwords rely mainly on foreignization strategy while domestication strategy subsidiary.The practical English translation approaches proposed in this thesis try to explore the English translation of the network buzzwords from a new perspective.It aims to promote the study on the translation of Chinese network catchwords and helps to transmit the internet language and internet culture.Secondly,China English should be employed.The proper use of China English can not only manifest the distinctiveness of Chinese culture but also obtain our international influence.
