| The source text of this translation project is based on the book The Ageless Body:How to Hold Back the Years to Achieve a Better Body, which was published in March,2016 by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC.The translator is responsible for the translation of the first three chapters of this book, and this part consists of fourteen thousand words. This book mainly discusses the scientific causes and laws of ageing and health care methods of women aged 40and 50 plus.At present, developed countries and most of the developing countries have entered the fastest-ageing society and the whole world will be an ageing society at the end of the 21st century. But the health status of middle-aged and old people, especially women at this age stage,is not very good. The translator hopes this translation project which includes advanced health knowledge of foreign country can benefit more women at this age stage. The first three chapters introduce the physical changes and their deep-rooted reasons of women aged 40 and 50 plus due to ageing from the medical perspective. And this part gives some advice on eating and exercising to defer senescence. This report is divided into four parts:the introduction to the translation task, the translation process, the analysis of translation cases and the summary of the translation practice.Part One mainly focuses on the source of original text, the brief introduction to the author and the text and significance of this translation project.Part Two is about the preparation for the translation, the analysis and revision of the second revised version and the revision and polishing of the final version.Part Three is the main body of this translation report in which the specific difficulties and typical cases are analyzed and the translation techniques are articulated.Under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this translation project is finished by employing various translation skills and the translation strategies of foreignization and domestication.Through this translation practice, the complexity of this translation work is obvious. From the preparation for the translation to the understanding of original text, and even to the proofreading and revision, every part of translation work could not be ignored.A good translator not only should acquire perfect bilingual skills and broad knowledge, but also should be familiar with the culture of both languages. There is a long way for the author to go in this field. |
