This report is based on the translation of the book The Ageless Body: How to Hold Back the Years to Achieve a Better Body(Chapter 4-7)which was written by Peta Bee and Sarah Schenker.Peta is a bestselling author who has won the Medical Journalists’ Association’s Freelancer of the Year,and Sarah is a registered dietitian and a member of British Dietetic Association.This is a book about health care and it was published by Bloomsbury Press of Britain in March,2016 throughout the world.The book consists of two parts,with a total of more than 50,000 words.Part one(from chapter1-3)elaborates the scientific and medical bases why the middle-aged women get older,and how diet and exercise affect their fitness.In the second part(from chapter 4-12),the authors present their own diet plan and new fitness plan for the readers to follow.The target audiences for this book are the females that over forty years old,the translator hopes that through the translation of this book,she can help more middle-aged female friends care for their own health,fitness and help them slow the process of aging.The source text is a informative text,therefore on the basis of the Skopos Theory of German Functional School,combined with skopos rule,coherence rule and loyalty principle,the translator completes the whole translation practice.First of all,a lot of terms about fitness are so uncommon that it’s hard to find their exact Chinese expressions,therefore she tries to translate them faithfully under the loyalty principle.What’s more,in accordance with coherence rule and loyalty principle,the translator uses several translation techniques,such as division,omission,amplification and repetition in the process of translation.This report is divided into four parts.The first part is a description of the task,including the source of the task,a brief introduction to the original text and the significance of the project.In the second part,the translator explains the process of her translation,including preparations before translation and the implementation.The third part is case analysis,which is the main part of the whole report.By analyzing the translation of some typical sentences and the polishing of the translation,the translator illustrates the techniques she has applied in the process of translating.The last part is a summary of the translation practice,in which the translator sums up what she has learned from the translation experience and how it inspires her future work.Through this translation practice,first of all,the translator has more profound understanding of the complexity and professionalism of translation,and secondly,she finds out an interesting method to better the translation by reading figures and pictures in the source text through the process of translating the fitness plan.If there are any figures or pictures in the source text,the translator can not only obtain information from the literal words,but also through the pictures to enrich and supplement the translation.A translator has to master multiple translation techniques and make most of all available resources to perfect the translation.
