A Report On The Translation Of The Queen Mother(Chapter 1)

In recent years,biographies emerge and become popular among readers.There are increasing numbers of experts and scholars who have interest in translation and study of biography.This report is written on the basis of the translation practice of a biography The Queen Mother(Chapter one).Since biography has two characteristic:authenticity and literariness,the translator faces a huge challenge of how to do well in biography translation.This report is divided into five chapters.Chapter one is the introduction part.It mainly introduces the task background,significance as well as features of the source text.Chapter two is the description of the translation process,including pre-traslation preparation,translation process and post-transaltion proofreading.Chapter three is theoretical basis of the translation.The author adopts Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,which will be introduced in detail in three aspects respectively:lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence and textual equivalence.Chapter four is case analysis,which is also the focus of this translation practice report.It mainly summarizes and analyzes the difficulties in translation from vocabulary,syntax and text,namely the translation of proper nouns,pronouns,attributive clauses and passive sentences.Under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,the author chooses some typical sentences and analyzes them in detail by using translation strategies such as transliteration,addition,omission,linear translation,division,conversion and adjustment of word order.Chapter five is the summary of this translation practice,mainly expresses the author's experience and limitations in this translation practice.This translation practice report aims to provide some help for biography translation and related research.Meanwhile,the author hopes to provide the latest and most authentic information on historical figures and reference materials for those English lovers who are interested in English royal family as well as those who are found of culture and history.
