| This paper is a practical translation report on the Chinese translation of the English short story collection,the Queen of Hearts.The research contents consist of a short story from this novel and its Chinese translation.In order to know how to apply the functional equivalence theory better in translating the English short story,this paper makes a detailed analysis in several aspects: the translation of environment description,the translation of main characters’ description,as well as the translation of the long and difficult sentences in the story.With regard to the translation difficulties encountering in the process of the translation,this paper attempts to propose some translation methods and skills to translate English short story into Chinese under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory and aims to provide some practical translation experience for similar texts.According to the practical translation and analysis,it’s appropriate to apply functional equivalence theory to the translation of English short story into Chinese.The essence of the theory is to achieve functional equivalence between the original text and the target text and tries to achieve the same response of the readers of both the original text and the target text.Therefore,applying the functional equivalence theory to translate the English short story can convey the contents and style of the story as much as possible and help the translation readers better understand the story. |
