| Biography is one of the important fields of contemporary literature research. In the context of One Belt And One Road promotion in China,it is an inevitable trend to strengthen the cultural exchanges between China and the west. The Chinese translation of western biographies can not only promote the communication and development of Chinese and western cultures, but also promote the in-depth study of the translation of Chinese biographical literature. Therefore, the translation practice and theoretical study of biographical literature are indispensable to cultural development. This translation practice report selects Chapter 13(The Queen at War)of The Queen Mother as the source text. This chapter mainly tells the story of Queen Elizabeth, from 1939 to 1941,called on the people of the world and made great efforts to save British and against Fascism.Based on the characteristics of the original text, the translation should focus on the following three problems.Firstly,in terms of faithfully transmitting the information of the original text,it is necessary to find and confirm the Chinese translations of war-related words, such as battle names,British army names, and weapon names.Secondly,in terms of translation expression,it is necessary to clarify the complex relationships of the characters and the situation and relationship among the European countries at that time.Thirdly, the translation should be adapted to different language styles, because there are a large number of Queen Elizabeth’s handwritten letters, public speeches of British leaders and other differenttext styles. For this reason, the translator, guided by the translation standard“Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Closeness” proposed by Mr.Liu Zhongde, discusses how to deal with proper nouns, long difficult sentences and rhetorical words in the translation,so as to better realize Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Closeness. It is found through this translation practice and research, that under the guidance of the translation principles of "faithfulness, expressiveness and conciseness",flexible use of translation strategies such as free translation, literal translation, addition translation and omission helps to faithfully convey the original information. And translation strategies, such as conversion, direct translation and reverse translation, can contribute to coherence and clarity in the translation. While appropriate treatment of modifier words can enable the translation more suitable for the writing style of the source text.Although translation theory and translation strategies are helpful to improve the quality of the translation, there are still some imperfections in the translation due to the limitation of the translator’s own ability and time. |
