On the basis of Chinese translation practice, this translation report analyzes translation important and difficult points in the translation process. Robert Hardman, one of Britain’s best-known observers of the monarchy wrote the biography Our Queen. Of which Chapter 7(Her and Us) is chosen as the source text. The heroine of this book is today’s Queen of Britain: Queen Elizabeth II. Through recording the important events happened during her reign, the purpose of the text is to show a public portrait of the kindness Queen and the important role Britain plays in the world. This translation report takes functional equivalence theory by Eugene Nida as the theoretical guidance. The ideal translation consists in reproducing in the target language the closest and natural equivalent of the source-language message to make the readers respond the same or similar as the original readers. Functional equivalence not only includes lexical equivalence, semantic equivalence, but also culture and style equivalence. This report presents the main difficulties in the translating process, such as how to translate proper noun, rhetorical sentences and complex sentences, then discuss the corresponding solutions I finally adopted, which contain the analyses of literal translation in common figures of speech, liberal translation in special figures of speech, interconversion between overt translation and covert translation, restoration the ontology, domestication equivalence, litotes and irony, sentences reconstruction, amplification and omission, conversion of the voice and other translation strategies. The report is composed of four parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the project, including its background and significance, while the second part explores the original text containing the author, the main content and text features as well as translation theory. The third part focuses on the case analysis of translation, including some strategies the relevant skills of translation, which contains lexical, rhetoric as well as complex sentences under the instruction of functional equivalence theory. According to the specific problem, the writer put forward corresponding solutions. In the end, the fourth part makes a conclusion about the report, including the experience and lessons drawn from this project as well as limitations of the study and prospects for further study.
