A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Subtitles Of Blindspot I

With more and more overseas movies and TV series swarming into our country,it is in a great need to pay more attention to the subtitle translation of these works for a better understanding and enjoyment of them.This paper is an E-C translation report of an American TV series Blindspot I.Compared with translation of other traditional texts,subtitle translation is relatively unusual for its distinctive features,such as time and space limitation,cultural differences and ways of expressions,etc.The problems encountered in my translation process includes difficult sentence translation,slang and proverb translation,four-character phrase utilization as well as the respect of exotic culture and custom in the translation.Based on the theory of domestication and foreignization,corresponding methods are put forward for those problems after studying the background knowledge and TV show language,and with the help of different dictionaries,parallel texts and the internet searching engine.In terms of difficult sentence translation,three methods are applied:omission,division and recasting as well as amplification;concerning slang and proverb translation,domestication is the theoretical guidance while liberal translation is used throughout the translation process;for four-character phrases,domestication is also the major strategy,and liberal translation conveys the intrinsic meaning;for the respect of exotic culture and custom,which means some specific western cultures should be remained in the process of translation,foreignization is taken as the theoretical guidance.
