A Study On Translation Of Film And Television Subtitles Under The Guidance Of Equivalence Principle

Since the21st century, TV and movie have become a popular form of entertainment,through which people to spread information and understand the major means of foreigncustoms. Among them, American TV series is the most popular. Although the subtitletranslation of American TV series has been updated very fast, its number and quality variedfrom one another. There are even some language errors in the translation of some subtitletranslation groups, not to mention the language exercise.The thesis is a translation report upon the subtitle translation of Grey’s Anatomy. Theauthor, under the guidance of principles of domestication, foreignization and equivalence,translated the201episode, Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head of Grey’s anatomy.The paper consists of four parts. Chapter one is the introduction. Chapter two mainlytalks about the background of the project and introduces the American TV series Grey’sAnatomy and its main characters. And the third part is the major part of the paper. The author,through the example sentences of Grey’s Anatomy to proceed on the analysis of the examplesentences, under the principles of equivalence to probe into the subtitle translation. Chapterfour is the conclusion. When perform a translation, translators should lay emphasis on the realmeaning of the source language and avoid pragmatic failures and language errors.
