| With the improvement of people’s living standard, more attention has been paid to healthcare.Nowadays,an increasing number of Chinese are reaching old age, which leads to a rise in healthcare demand. The situation suggests that healthcare in hospital may not meet people’s demand and that healthcare at home and in community will play an increasingly important role in patients’ care. Therefore,it is critical to determine what kind of strategies should be adopted to deal with the safety problems in healthcare in order to provide people with safer healthcare.According to such current situations and an interest in healthcare, the translator chooses Safer Healthcare--Strategies for the Real World as the source text of this translation project. This paper consists of two parts. The first part is the source text with 19000 words and the target text. The book analyzes the challenges that patients’ healthcare safety is facing, and the ideal healthcare and the reality. It also proposes strategies for safer healthcare.Chapters 6-9 are the core chapters. In chapter 6,safety strategies in healthcare are well described. The use and value of these strategies in hospitals,at home and in primary care are respectively illustrated in chapters 7-9.The second part is a translation report including four chapters.Chapter one states the background of the translation project, purpose and significance of the translation project,as well as contents of the book and the chosen chapters.Chapter two gives a brief introduction to the preparation before translation and the quality control.Chapter three is case study, which is the core part of the whole translation report. It states difficulties in the translation project and the translation techniques.Chapter four generalizes gains and experiences acquired from the translation project,as well as limitations existing in the translation project.Hans Vermeer’s skopos theory is taken as the theoretical guidance in this translation project. It includes three rules:skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. The skopos rule is the core of the skopos theory. It introduces the idea that a translation should always be conducted to fulfill the purpose of the target text in the target’s situation.Under the guidance of Hans Vermeer ’s Skopos theory, the translator completes the translation project, gets a further understanding of the informative text, and concludes translation methods in this translation project. It is hoped that the target text can offer some references for future healthcare translation projects and help hospitals and relative organizations to build safer healthcare systems. Finally, the translator also hopes that the target text can enrich China’s literature on healthcare. |
